Latin / INCI: Thymus vulgaris

Used in traditional herbal medicine for infections of throat, bronchi and lungs and urinary tract. Antibacterial, especially against streptococcus species, antifungal, antiparasitic and antiviral. Helps cough up phlegm from the lungs as well as soothe a sore throat.

Externally, very useful in treatments for acne and for cleaning minor wounds and cuts. May be effective against warts and scabies in some individuals. Also available as an essential oil.

Best avoided during pregnancy
