If you have sensitive skin you will know the frustration of finding an off-the-shelf face cream that will not cause a negative reaction. While no product is perfect for everyone we believe that customising your own skincare offers you a better chance of finding a solution that suits your individual needs.

Learning to make a cosmetic cream with therapeutic effects requires knowledge, time, experience and equipment. In this Starter Kit we provide a ready-made hypo-allergenic base cream plus a variety of extra organic ingredients suitable for sensitive skin, together with empty pots, instructions, a recipe and even blank labels.

This gives you the freedom to safely experiment and mix the cream according to the needs of your skin.

The health and integrity of our skin varies with time, exposure to external irritants, diet, lifestyle and genetics, as well as psychological-emotional and immunological factors. It can also be different on different locations of our body, even on different areas of our face, and depending on the balance of the skin biome in those locations. 

With this Mix your own Face Cream starter kit you can learn ''hands-on'' about different natural ingredients that may help to soothe and nourish a sensitive skin. Plus you will have the satisfaction of creating for yourself a personalised face cream that succeeds where store-bought cosmetic products may have failed. And although we use the term ''face'' cream, you may find it helps to soothe other areas of over-sensitive skin.

The Kit includes an overview of the functions and applications of each ingredient, instructions and an example recipe. It represents an easy introduction  to the magical world of making your own skincare products. You will gain an insight into the wonderful healing gifts of nature, particularly those of natural oils cold-pressed from organic nuts and seeds, infused oils (macerates), flower waters (aromatic waters and hydrolates), essential oils and pure plant CO2 extracts.

Basic information about these and many other possible ingredients is available under each product description on the Magical Naturals website. As you learn more you may wish to experiment with ingredients other than those in this Kit.

You may also be inspired to explore further possibilities such as formulating your own cream, lotions, balms and serums, or the study and application of essential oils (aromatherapy) or herbal medicine (phytotherapy). 

As such, this Starter Kit can also be used as an inspiring educational tool for children (with adult supervision) or as a wonderful gift for a loved one, including yourself!

Tip: 

When you have very sensitive skin or allergies, or if you are unsure if an ingredient you want to use is suitable for you, carry out a sensitivity (patch) test. Apply a small portion of the ingredient (in the case of an essential oil of CO2 extract, first dilute one drop in a teaspoon of base oil, such as Jojoba or Safflower) to the back of your wrist, or elbow crease. Cover with a plaster and leave for 24-36 hours. If irritation, rash, burn or redness occurs, bathe the area with cold water, and in future dilute the ingredient by half if possible, or avoid using it.

Economic!

This Starter Kit includes 200g natural base cream and 5 x empty pots. When used at the dosages given in the example recipe, the other ingredients are enough for around 35 x 40-50g pots of cream.

This means that after making your first 5 pots, you only need to order more base cream and empty pots. Our Base Cream can be reordered in units of 200g, 500g or 1kg, and the empty pots in single units. 

The result is a supply of top-quality, personalised cream at a fraction of the cost you would pay for an off-the-shelf, branded product

Scent options:

When mixed according to the instructions provided, the resulting cream has pleasant but mild scent. If you want a stronger scent it is possible to add a few drops of essential oil. Many essential oils are not suitable for very sensitive skin, while some others can make a positive difference.

The Starter Kit excludes essential oils as that depends on your personal choice and needs. We recommend one or more of the following essential oils:

Sensitive skin: Chamomile, Lavender, Ho-leaf, Jasmine, Rose, Frankincense, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Palmarosa or Ylang-Ylang.

Extra-sensitive/allergic skin: Chamomile, Lavender, Ylang-Ylang, Rose or choose for no essential oils.

With dry eczema: Bergamot, Lavender, Rose-Geranium, Cedar-atlas, Chamomile or Sandalwood

With weeping eczema: Jasmine, Chamomile, Rosemary, Patchouli, Rose or Lavender

Itchy skin: Bergamot, Cedar-atlas, Peppermint, Manuka, Myrrh, Lavender or Chamomile
