Spearmint essential oil

INCI: Mentha spicata.
Oil from steam distillation of leaves, flowers and stems.
Origin: China.

Spearmint has many of the properties of Peppermint but is said to be gentler and, for that reason, more suited for children. It was used by the ancient Greeks as a restorative and to scent their bathwater. The scent of Spearmint is not so camphoraceous or intensely penetrating as Peppermint - it is more spicy-herbaceous-sweet.

Caution: Possible sensitization in some individuals. We recommend a patch test (dilute the essential oil in a cream or carrier oil first) before using any new skincare preparation. As with virtually all essential oils it should not be used neat on the skin nor be taken internally!
