Dried Herb - Elderflower (organic)

Latin / INCI: Sambucus nigra

 With its lovely aroma and taste, Elderflower is often enjoyed in the form of cordial and wine. A cold infusion of Elderflower will act as a diuretic, helping with urinary infections and night sweats. Hot infusions stimulate the elimination of excess mucus from the nose, sinuses, throat and bronchi, at the same time having a soothing anti-inflammatory effect. It is therefore traditionally used by herbalists, combined with peppermint, yarrow and thyme, for the common cold, flu, sinusitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis and in some cases of bronchitis.

 Externally, due to the mucilage content, a cold infusion used as a lotion is very soothing will help mild sunburn or other burns, dry, chapped skin and sore, red eyes. The flavonoids constituents of Elder have anti-inflammatory and circulation-stimulation properties which can be put to good use when an infusion is added to creams, lotions, etc., for cellulitis and mildly inflamed or ulcered skin.
