Product Description
Pomegranate Seed Oil, cold-pressed
Promote radiant, youthful skin with our top quality cold-pressed Pomegranate Seed Oil.
Pomegranate, better known in the West for its fruit, has been valued for centuries in the Middle East and Mediterranean lands, as well as in Ayurvedic medicine, as a treasure store of health benefits. Every part of the plant—the seeds, bark, and flowers—has different uses ranging from culinary to medicinal.
The cold-pressed oil from the seeds have become a favourite in modern, natural skincare formulations. As a lightweight "dry" oil, it absorbs quickly without a greasy residue, carrying vital nutrients deep into skin cells to speed up rejuvenation.
It is suitable for all skin types, including mature, dry, and sensitive skin.
What makes Pomegranate seed oil special?
This oil is rich in the rare omega-5 essential fatty acid — punicic acid — a natural and potent antioxidant that helps protect the skin and hair against free radical damage and premature aging.
Omega-5 also helps inhibit inflammation of the skin which contributes to long-term skin health and counter the effect of environmental damage, such as from UV light and pollution.
Key benefits for skin and hair:
• Potent Antioxidant Protection: The relatively high levels of punicic acid, polyphenols, and vitamin E support skin health by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, and stimulating tissue repair.
• Cellular Regeneration & Elasticity: Stimulates the regeneration of the epidermis and protection of collagen, helping to maintain skin tone, elasticity, and a healthy, glowing appearance.
• Soothing & Calming Support: Helps soothe itchy skin (combines wonderfully with chickweed oil for this purpose) and can be a useful addition to after-sun recipes due to its ability to moisturize and reduce inflammation.
How to use:
a) As an Ingredient in natural skincare products
• Recommended usage levels:
- Facial Serums & Lip Care: 1% – 5%
- Creams & Lotions: 2% – 5%
- Hair Care & Scalp Treatments: 1% – 3%
- Soaps & Body Washes: 3% – 10%
• Formulation: To preserve the integrity of heat-sensitive zinc complexes, vitamins, and unsaturated fatty acids, we recommend adding this oil only to phase 3 (the cool-down phase, below 40°C) during emulsion formulation. However, if necessary, our cold-pressed Pomegranate seed oil can be added at the very end of phase 1 (after the butters and waxes have melted). Avoid prolonged exposure of this oil to high temperatures.
b) Use direct on your skin
• Facial oil: While Pomegranate seed oil is potent, it can be safely used on its own directly on the skin. Gently massage a few drops onto clean skin as the final step in your daily routine.
c) Use directly on your hair and scalp
• Scalp & hair serum: As a pre-shampoo tonic, gently warm the oil and massage a few drops directly into the scalp. Leave for 30 minutes prior to washing.
Alternatively - smooth the oil through damp hair ends to tame frizz and add shine.
Packaging options:
Our cold-pressed Pomegranate seed oil is available in 100ml, 250ml, 500ml, 1 litre and 5kg units.
The 100ml comes in a brown glass bottle. The 5kg is supplied in a HDPE jerry can. The other units are in UV-protective brown PET recyclable bottles. All are with tamper-proof caps to keep the oils safe and stable in transit.
Precautions:
For external cosmetic use only.
Cold-pressed pomegranate seed oil is generally considered safe and non-comedogenic for skincare use.
However, if you have sensitive skin or allergies to particular fruits or seeds, or if you have a chronic skin condition such as severe eczema, psoriasis, rosacea or acne, and want to use Pomegranate seed oil pure on your skin or scalp, we recommend that you first perform a patch test.
Patch test: apply a small drop of the oil to the inside of your wrist or the crook of your elbow. Wait 24 to 48 hours to check for redness, itching, swelling, or hives before applying it to your face or larger areas. Discontinue use immediately if any signs of irritation develop.
Storage: Punicic acid is particulatly prone to degrade and go rancid when exposed to excessive heat, light, or air. We add extra vitamin E to naturally prolong freshness and potency.
Store in a dark glass bottle in a cool, dry place, and smell for any unusual, sour odours before use.
