Hibiscus flowers organic, dried

Our Hibiscus flowers are from organic cultivation of Hibiscus sabdrariffa in Egypt. After harvesting the flowers are dried naturally in the sun and then sieved, tested for microorganisms and packed under hygienic conditions. .

Hibiscus is native to Africa, South-east Asia, Mexico and the Caribbean, all areas where it is popular in traditional medicine. In all these places Hibiscus flowers (and sometimes the leaves) are also made into refreshing drinks each with popular regional names, such as karkade in Egypt and sorrel in the Caribbean. It is also made into jams, jellies and syrups. 

Hibiscus flowers can be infused in hot water to make a wonderfully warming and comforting cup of tea on cold days. And when chilled the infusion is wonderfully refreshing on hot days! 
Hibiscus tea has a sour, fruity taste with a delicate balance between sweetness and a slightly spicy aftertaste. Its natural citrus notes give a refreshing and uplifting feeling, while its deep red colour is a feast for the eyes!
Dried Hibiscus flowers can also be infused together with fresh or dried Peppermint leaves and/or a slice of lemon, orange or grapefruit. for extra zest and refreshment.  

The infusion can also be incorporated into skincare products for rejuvenating and hydrating mature skin, for treating acne and for exfoliation (see below - How to use).

Hibiscus sabdariffa offers various health benefits.

Benefits of Hibiscus infusion (tea):

Warming and comforting on cold days
Cooling and refreshing on hot days
Uplifting and calming (for occasional low mood, mild depression, mild anxiety)
Rich in antioxidants like beta-carotene, vitamin C, and anthocyanin, which combat free radicals, both internally and on the skin
Exhibits anti-inflammatory effects, potentially supportive for alleviating conditions of chronic inflammation.
Potentially lowers blood pressure (but should not replace blood pressure medications).
Some studies suggest hibiscus may help lower cholesterol levels
Positive impact on weight loss observed in concentrated hibiscus extract studies, not confirmed for tea.
Protects the liver from toxins.

Precautions:

Dried Hibiscus flowers made into tea is considered to be generally safe in normal doses. Allergic reactions and liver damage possible in high doses. ​
Due to potential effects on the menstrual cycle it is best to avoid drinking Hibiscus tea during pregnancy.
Hibiscus tea may affect the action of some medications, such as ACE inhibitors. If you take medicines, it is advisable to consult your herbalist or doctor before drinking hibiscus tea.

How to use:

To make a delicious cup of Hibiscus tea, simply infuse one to 3 dried Hibiscus flowers in hot water and allow to stand for 2 to 4 minutes, remove the flowers and enjoy it as a warm drink, or allow to become cold for a refreshing, cooling drink! 

Skincare: make a strong infusion of dried Hibiscus flowers in spring water. The infusion can then be incorporated into a base cream, lotion, toner or gel in products for rejuvenation and hydration, and for acne. The dried flowers can also be ground to a fine powder and incorporated into a face mask for exfoliation.
