Bergamot essential oil

Bergamot essential oil is cold-pressed from the peel of the unripe fruit of the Bergamot orange. It has an uplifting fresh citrus aroma that can help alleviate anxiety and mild depression. It also has calming and balancing effects on the skin and so can help with oily skin and  to treat acne, eczema and psoriasis.

Named after the Italian city of Bergamo in Lombardy, the Bergamot orange has been used in Italian folk medicine for many years, in particular for treating fever and infection by internal parasites such as worms. Before modern antibiotics, the essential oil was used in Italian hospitals to prevent the spread of airborne bacteria. 

A few drops placed in an essential oil diffuser and breathed in from the surrounding air will be found very helpful for infections of the mouth and respiratory system. It can also help both physically and energetically to cleanse a room that has been occupied by a sick person for some time. .

Bergamot essential oil is also antiviral and antifungal and speeds the healing of wounds. So it can be used as an ingredient in skincare products for herpes, such as warts and for ringworm and other fungal infections of the skin.

Bergamot is also widely used in perfumes and toiletries, such as eau-de-cologne and in many foods and beverages, notably Earl Grey tea. The essential oil can make a pleasant ingredient in deodorant products.

Ingredients:

100% pure and natural cold-pressed Citrus aurantium bergamia (Bergamot) fruit oil. No additves or solvents.

Our Begamot essential oil is free from bergapten (a furocoumarin) which makes it less likely to be phototoxic. 

Options:

10ml, 30ml or 100ml brown glass bottle with dropper cap. Larger sizes available on request.

Precautions:

As with virtually all essential oils not use neat on the skin nor take internally. .

As with other citrus essential oils it is best to avoid exposure to sun for up to 12 hours after using a skincare product containing Bergamot essential oil. Although our Bergamot oil is free from furocoumarins, there remains a small risk of photoxicity and/or skin irritation.

Possible sensitization in some individuals. We recommend a sensitivity (patch) test (dilute the essential oil in a cream or carrier oil first) before using any new skincare preparation. 

When diffusing any essential oil ensure young children and pets can freely exit the room if they find the scent too strong.

How to use:

1) In a diffuser add 3 to 4 drops and let the scent diffuse for 30 to 60 minutes in the room. 

2) For use in skincare: dilute Bergamot essential oil in a carrier oil, base cream, lotion, gel or base shampoo, or base shower gel as an ingredient in deodorant, serum or healing balm. Dilute at a dosage of up to 0.5%, or as advised by a qualified teacher or cosmetic safety scientist.  Best not to use in sun protection  products.
